Sunday 6th November
We have had a long break from our Church Bible Study due to holidays and other commitments so it was good to get back to it on Monday evening. I love to look deeper into the Bible for God to reveal new things from it so this is one of my favourite meetings of the week.
On Tuesday evening we went to see our son’s teachers to find out how he is doing, with exams due in January he is in an important stage in his education so it was good to hear the positive comments from them. Unfortunately by the time I got home the Senior Youth Club was almost finished so I didn’t get to either of the Youth Clubs.
I was back at school on Wednesday, first to the local Primary School where the Community Committee of the Governors was meeting to consider plans for the future. I then went straight from there to the local Secondary School for a meeting of the Finance Committee of the Governors as we monitored the spending within the school to try to provide the best for the pupils.
After a quick tea I went to our home church where we were hosting the joint churches prayer meeting. There was a good spirit amongst those present as we first discussed prayer points and then got down to prayer for the people of our town and the nation.
We began to learn a new piece at the Community Choir on Thursday, "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” we were all in agreement that the Andrews Sisters must have been brilliant singers to sing it so beautifully, we were having difficulties fitting the words in even when it was played at a slower speed. I had to slip away early from choir to go to a meeting for the Bible Comes Alive, the last before the second round of presentations begins in the North East. The business is chaired by Hilda Rolfe who gets through it in a light hearted but earnest manner so that we have plenty of time to pray. The group of churches in the North East that present Bible Comes Alive do so to over 2,000 school children every year and this we know is only possible because of the prayer backing that underpins it.
On Saturday my wife and I took advantage of all the children been out on different activities to complete the decoration of our son and our own bedrooms which Anita had started on Friday. It gave us a sense of achievement to see the rooms freshly decorated by the evening.
We have a monthly prayer meeting before our service on the first Sunday in the month but I had to leave early so that I could get to our Hetton IM Church where I had the privilege of leading worship and preaching. The fellowship are always welcoming and encouraging, these qualities together with their prayerfulness, involvement in the local community and Bible based teaching have surely been major factors in the way that the church is growing.
