President's Diary

Sunday 10th March

After a busy day at work on Monday it was a welcome change to go to the Bible Study to learn more about God’s plan for us. My fellow Minister at Stanley Street, Sheila Heron is leading this series bringing the benefit of her study.  We are then benefiting from each other’s insights and experience which is both building up our knowledge and encouraging us.  We also get to know each other better which is increasing our fellowship.

Tuesday was busy, I left work early go to our local primary school  to chair a governors’ meeting.  I left that to go straight to the school our children attend for our younger daughter’s parents’ evening.  Whilst I was proud to hear how well Rachel is doing in all subjects there is a need for her to be less talkative in class so on the journey home I had to give her the hard word about that whilst congratulating her on how well she is doing.  Once home I quickly had tea before going to the youth club, unfortunately I was too late for the junior club where a number of the children had been asking where I was and would I get there before the end.

The joint prayer meeting was at our home church on Wednesday, the fellowship that we enjoy together is excellent and the time of prayer was both powerful and encouraging.  We also chatted about our understanding of the Bible and its application in particular situations which was helpful.

I didn’t go to the Community Choir on Thursday because I was at a study course for work
so I didn’t get home until 9pm.

It was another early finish from work on Friday to travel through light rain and fog to the Resource Centre for the Administration Group meeting.  Several members of the group were absent but there was still plenty of business to be considered and discussed, all of it in a good spirit.  At the end of the meeting as I set back I made good time at first but then a traffic jam due to the closure of the M62 and a rather long diversion resulted in the journey taking almost a hour longer.

I had no meetings on Saturday so once all of the children had gone out to their activities my wife, Anita, and I went out for a few hours.  We did some window shopping, bought Anita a winter coat then went to do some shopping for odds and ends in our local shopping centre where we seemed to bump into the world and his wife so it took rather longer than it might have done.

There was a good attendance at our home church on Sunday despite some being ill, some being taken out by their families and some being put off by the snowy weather.  To mark Mothering Sunday the children Sunday School from the took part in the service some reading poems and one six year old boy singing a solo, he chose to sing "O happy day” and determined that he should sing it under the cross.  Another of the boys, who is only three, decided during the singing of one of the hymns to dance, gangnam style so it was quite a treat for us to see and hear all of the children.  Anita was the speaker, preaching a very thought provoking Mothering Sunday message.
After the service I went to Houghton to pick up my father and mother-in-law who were coming for lunch and we also had friends from church.  It was good to have some time relaxing with friends and family before I took my "in-laws” home to Spennymoor before going to the end of our second Messy church where I was delighted to see that there was an increase in the number of children attending.
